GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 531373
Will not change file-type binding
Last modified: 2014-02-07 08:58:22 UTC
Please describe the problem: In the "Properties" of any given file, I am not allowed to change with what program the file-type should be opened with. Steps to reproduce: 1. Right click on a file in Gnome commander. 2. Click on the "Properties" option. 3. In the window that appears, press "Change" in the "Open With:" row Actual results: Nothing Expected results: To get a menu with a list of suitable applications and/or a field to write a command-line Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Sorry, forgot to mention. I am able to open with other applications, via either the "Open With" -> "Other" option or by creating an entry for the file extensions, creating an option in the right-click menu. The only thing I am unable to do, is making other applications the standard application for the given file extension.
I can confirm the bug in GC 1.2.7, on Ubuntu 8.04. I can reproduce Jonas's steps, and it happens every time. I am able to "Open with > Other". I have attempted several solutions commonly suggested elsewhere, but they all failed. More specifically, I have tried to set the default pdf-viewer to Evince, but GC keeps using Xpdf. All the following methods failed in GC 1.2.7: 1. changed file association in Nautilus. (it is set to Evince, in Nautilus they're opened with E., in GC - Xpdf). 2. changed the files handling MIME types (mimeinfo.cache, defaults.list, as suggested on the GC documentation page: http://www.nongnu.org/gcmd/doc.html). I've set pdfs to Evince, and only Evince (still GC uses XPdf) 3. checked the file fav-apps (~/.gnome-commander/fav-apps); I have proper association with Evince for pdf, ps and dvi (still GC uses XPdf).
I think this is connected with bug 347852, possibly a duplicate.

Because the "Change" button in file properties and the menu entry in "Settings... -> Edit Mime Types..." are calling the same program (gnome-file-types-properties), this bug is essentially a duplicate of bug 347852.
