Description Bastien Nocera 2008-03-31 20:26:42 UTC
We should allow applications to install keybindings (using XML files as now), and instead of having a hardcoded action (as in media-keys/) or a custom command to run (as in keybindings/) call a D-Bus function, that could auto-start the application if necessary, or be ignored if the application developer doesn't need it.

That would remove the need for applications to do their own keygrabbing, removing some duplicated and maybe broken code (the Tomboy keybinding code is copied all over).
Comment 1 Bastien Nocera 2011-11-03 14:12:22 UTC
We don't really have other apps that we would want doing that in GNOME 3, and the ones which would be interested would probably do it wrongly/copy-paste the code to work in other desktop environments.

Let's see if we get applications interested in the future.
