Especially when printing large documents (mostly PDF), or when printing more than a page per sheet, no progress information is shown.

It happened to me to wait even four/five minutes on PDFs of only ~20 pages, 400kB in size, and having no idea if Evince was doing anything or not (I keep GNOME system monitor open, so I see the CPU climbing to 100%, but not everyone does that).

Having progress information about the pages printed would be very very nice. A progress bar like the gedit save/load bar would be perfect, imho, showing also the number of pages spooled.
