Description Paul Wise 2008-03-14 10:41:43 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The fix for #482159 clears the clipboard and selection buffers instead of preventing them to be used.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select text in an epiphany tab
2. Copy text
3. Urgently go to the toilet
4. Screensaver starts
5. Come back to find the clipboard is empty

Actual results:
Get annoyed at GNOME people.

Expected results:
By desktop would be the same as before when I login.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
Please don't fix bugs by introducing other bugs.

The clipboard is meant to be transient. I've discussed this with the GTK+ maintainer and consider the current behavior to be a reasonable compromise between security and usability.

Okay, this is seriously stupid. This kind of data loss should simply _never_ occur, and this bug should be fixed.

At least give us a detailed explanation if you think the current behavior is a reasonable compromise between security and usability.

Because honestly, I don't see how this is good for 'usability'.

What do others think about this? I'm sure people will get annoyed when they find their clipboard to be empty "randomly".
