Description Hubert Figuiere (:hub) 2007-09-30 15:47:15 UTC
If I reply in text/part to a multipart/alternative email, while I asked Evo to always view the text/plain part, Evo "quote" the text/html part. The worst part is that if said HTML part contain tables, it tries to make a table in plain text.

What I expect is:

1/ the quoted part MUST be the viewed part.
2/ if replying in plain text, it should try to make a "table" in the quoted text.

Thanks for a bug report. I agree with a), also as stated in bug #595955, evolution should quote part which is shown to a user.

With respect of b), replying to a text/plain part, it's taken as a raw text, thus either the table is "created" there as expected by sender, or it isn't. I wouldn't like evolution to change this, reformat from HTML, rather keep the text/plain part as sender sent it, just quote it. The a) is also slightly against it, because evolution should ignore the text/html part when text/plain is shown.

Please note that the description of duplicate bug 595955
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=595955
is much clearer than the description above.

Note also that this bug shows up both upon replying and upon forwarding a message. It is very frustrating to have the message displayed correctly in plain text when one is reading it, and then have it suddenly change to a totally different format when one tries to forward or reply to it. What the user sends when forwarding or replying should be EXACTLY what the user saw when viewing the message.

See the attached screen shots of an original message, and that same message after clicking either "reply" or "forward". Note that the message is formatted completely differently than it was in the original message, and does not even appear to have the same content(!!!), as all of the links seem to be hidden, with no way to access them. Note that this is in spite of the format supposedly being "Plain Text", as visible in the screen shots.

Please honor the user's settings. If the user didn't want to use plain text, then the user would not have set his/her preferences to plain text.

I have not found any work-around to this bug.

I am using Evolution 2.28.3.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new bug report ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
