GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 472249
More space for video preview when in advanced view
Last modified: 2010-09-11 00:57:38 UTC
When in advanced view, space available for video preview widget becomes critically low, in order to gain a significant amount the following changes to user interface could be applied: - Remove the seek scrollbar placed right below the video preview widget, it is redundant since more accurate seeking is already provided by the red slider placed on complex timeline widget's header. - Move playback buttons and time displayer inside the main toolbar, just like in Jokosher. - Remove borders from complex timeline widget, since each subobject has its own border, this would free another little amount of space and would make the application look more light. I agree with those changes, and I actually filed most of them as bug reports a while ago: bug #421691 (had a patch for the border), bug #337737, and I once spoke with bilboed about "Remove the seek scrollbar placed right below the video preview widget", and I was told it was not a good idea (I don't quite remember why).
I think we're moving in this general direction, though. The only reason to keep the playback slider next to the viewer is for playing temporary sources from the clip library. But, we could hide these controls when the source is the timeline, and it probably makes sense to do this (see bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458932)
Propose closing this, it still speaks of an advanced mode, and is out of date with 0.10? Things like the borders should be filed separately?
I'd agree, the only significant stuff remaining is the "what do we do with playback buttons" (there's no bug report specifically for that, as far as I know) and bug #590632
This bug has expired and gone to meet its maker.
