GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 458014
Program(s) is not aware of an active PPP connection
Last modified: 2007-12-07 15:55:33 UTC
Please describe the problem: Connecting with PPP to my ISP with this program (or any other, such as "pon" or "poff") seems not to be recorded/noticed by GNOME. I can surf the internet with Firefox as usual, but the network applet says "No connection". Steps to reproduce: 1. Connect to a PPP host with a modem 2. Notice an active connection with ifconfig/ping of an internet host 3. Move the mouse pointer over the network applet and note the text "No connection" Actual results: The computer is connected to the internet, but the applet does not recognize there is a route to the internet enabled. Expected results: The applet should understand there is an active connection and display this to the user as with a regular ethernet NIC. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: This seems to active many GNOME programs such as Evolution, GAIM, etc, which by default work in "offline" mode. GAIM for example, "awaits network connection" and Evolution is by default in offline mode, even if the command-line option "--online" is used. As it seems to be a "global problem" in GNOME, I am not really sure if to blame the NetworkManager or something else. If I misplaced this bug report, please help me where to submit it.
Using latest Ubuntu Gutsy, which has NM 0.6.5, I can also confirm this bug!
