GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 452173
Gracefuly work around ORBit problems on Windows
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:41:00 UTC
As continuation of Bug 431980: From what I read on the net, for some people GNUCash works only with 2.13.x ORBit (provided in GNUCash package) while for another (like me) only with 2.14.x ORBit. Even if this is ORBit's bug, GNUCash as end-user application should gracefully deal with that. Current situation prevents from spreading GNUCash to wide Windows audience, because average Windows user will not want to swap DLLs in Program Files manually. If this ORBit's problem is not to be fixed in near future, then I suggest providing GNUCash Windows installer with both versions of ORBit and some post-install test (a) testing which version works on particular system and (b) installing this particular version of ORBit.
Where did you read that ORBit2 2.14 works, but 2.13 not? That may be very valuable information.
I rather read the opposite at http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#GConf.2FORBit_COMM_FAILURE - it recommends using ORBit 2.13.x instead of 2.14.x In fact recent 2.1.x Gnucash installers are supplied with the 2.13.x version, but this 2.13.x version does not work for me. To make Gnucash run on my system I have to a) overwrite ORBit with 2.14.x AND b) remove stale Temp\orbit-<username> folder
Do you have an orbit2 dll in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32?

Sorry for the delay. No, I don't have orbit2 dll in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 Some additional info can also be found in bug 452170.
Actually, I guess we can mark this one as fixed, because GnuCash 2.2.1 will use ORBit2 2.14.7 or higher anyway.
