Description John Fleck 2001-09-10 00:45:13 UTC
Links in static html files, which until recently worked, have stopped working.
Ali Abdin noticed this the weekend of 10/28, I verified it with a new build 10/30.

To reproduce:

Click on a document in the help sidebar that uses static html:

help->applications->bug-buddy

The bug buddy page appears.
Click on a link within that page to a separate page:description.
Error box appears:
Can't Display Location: help:bug-buddy/description.html is not a valid location.

Note: this is not the previously discussed html anchors bug, #3864, #3756,
#2787. This occurs when going to a separate html help page, not to one with

This /used/ to work before.

mfleming - Do you know what's wrong with this? (I thought you had fixed this
problem?)

This sounds like a problem with canonical uris. Pavel made some changes most
recently in this area, maybe he can recognize the issue.

I haven't looked at it yet, but because it doesn't affect Nautilus help, its not
high on my queue right now <frown>

"It once did work"

Mike Fleming says we should reconsider whether this is required for PR2.

------- Additional Comments From mikef@praxis.etla.net 2000-10-31 14:23:44 ----

4302 doesn't affect nautilus help, so I don't think its important for PR2

------- Additional Comments From mathieu@gnome.org 2000-10-31 14:27:41 ----

yes, sgml help is not affected by this.

------- Additional Comments From bud@eazel.com 2000-10-31 23:43:19 ----

Althought this does not affect Nautilus help, it affects the
help for all other applications, and should be fixed for PR2 .

This is the same as 5416 and I like the description in that bug better.

Now, rather than simply receiving a polite "not a valid location" error message,
Nautilus crashes when clicking on a link within a static html help file.
The only error message on the terminal is

** WARNING **: A view failed. The UI will handle this with a dialog but this
should be debugged.

First noticed on hourly rpms - 200102090414

------- Additional Comments From mikef@praxis.etla.net 2001-02-09 10:59:40 ----

It is entirely possible that behaviour has gotton worse since the recent
nautilus-mozilla wrapper rewrite. I'll get to this ASAP.

------- Additional Comments From mikef@praxis.etla.net 2001-02-18 15:49:13 ----

Fixed, although not in the way I prefer.

entering "help:control-center" in nautilus will effectively re-direct you to the
file: path containing the HTML file. This redirection is done inside the
mozilla wrapper.

Stuff that uses pipes, like sgml, is unaffected.
