i wonder if a fallback mode would make more sense (like "if ~/.pidgin not exists then try ~/.gaim", but not sure if it would make sense at all)

seems like i have a softlink here from ~/.gaim to ~/.pidgin so i never faced that sync problem :)

Andre, I dont think there are going to be any more gaim and most of the distros started shipping pidgin already. Im not sure, do you really this fallback? It would add to the complexities.

Srini: It can be added as a configure option for the plugin. "Sync my .gaim as well" which will be on by default for some time now and later we can keep it disabled. That shouldn't be too much of work anyway.
