GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 433723
Crashing on import/slideshow
Last modified: 2018-07-01 09:00:19 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. Amd64 architecture, Ubuntu Feisty 2. Attempt to import photo into F-spot 3. Alternatively, start up the slideshow Stack trace: Not possible, crash results in full system lock-up, no response from any keys/mouse movements, requires hard-reset to recover Other information: AFAIK, this is specific to the 64-bit version of this application for Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04)
This is not specific to the 64 bit version. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot/+bug/89467 The bug is much worse btw, since it's not only triggered by import/slideshow. I'll add this bugreport to the upstream buglist in malone.
Hi, Because there are several reporters of this bug i think it should be confirmed. I also commented on the launchpad site. And, because version 0.2.x worked very well on my system (the ubuntu edgy) i think this one should be marked as an regressionbug (crashes with ubuntu feisty). When there is anything i can do, please ask... Thanks
What video card and driver combination are you using? Ati?
in the ubuntu bug report, all people experiencing the problem are running a via KM400 or alike with either the xorg via driver or the unichrome driver. it's also mentioned there that this is probably an issue with xorg/dri/xaa or so, since it happens with both drivers. f-spot seems not to be the issue, but nevertheless triggers it. I therefore think it's worthwile to keep this bug open. there's logs from debug sessions in the ubuntu bugreport. you might want to take a look at those. they're created on a system without -dbg packages though. if it helps I'm willing to create new ones.
I'm fine with keeping this open as a tracking bug. I suspect the issue is somehow related to having more than one OpenGL context.
Hi Larry A few lines from my /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Section "Device" Identifier "VIA Technologies, Inc. S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter" Driver "via" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection So i guess i use the via driver. Please correct me if i am wrong. Greetz
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5092 appears to be the same bug as this. It contains quite a bit of information that may help in creating a workaround in f-spot.
Import is fine for me with 0.4.1 and ATI drivers on SuSE 10.2, but slideshow always starts with the first photo in my catalog (ignoring the selected subset) and crashes when I hit Esc to exit. This did not happen in versions prior to 0.4.x. max texture size 2048 scaling to 1 UnInhibit screensaver The program 'f-spot' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 38756 error_code 2 request_code 145 minor_code 1) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) > rpm -qa f-spot f-spot-0.4.1-38.3 > rpm -qa xorg-x11 xorg-x11-7.2-146.1 > fglrxinfo display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. i use hardy heron, equipped with f-spot O.4.3.1. the slideshow does not work at all: the same image remains onscreen--doesn't crash, but doesn't change. Can anyone help?? RW

I have a very similar problem: f-spot crashes when clicking either the import button or choosing the slideshow from the menu. The system does not freeze. I have attached log files for these cases. It also crashes when using the command line -i option to import (log file attached). f-spot is not under active development anymore, has not seen code changes for five years, and saw its last tarball release in the year 2010. Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/f-spot/commits/master Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
