GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 416049
Message viewer should close on deleting last message in folder
Last modified: 2012-08-08 11:28:38 UTC
When I click delete on a message window, it views the next/previous message, which is all well and good (though see bug 414589 for the "close on delete" option I'd like). Separately, though, if there are no more messages left to switch to, i.e. I have just deleted the last message in the folder, I would like the window to close regardless of any such option. Otherwise, you have an empty message window, with the title of the deleted message, which isn't much use IMHO. I haven't tested whether any new message in the folder will suddenly appear in such a window, but even if it does, surely there are better ways to be notified of new mail.
More rationale: http://www.nongnu.org/mailnotify/ lets me easily open the message window with a new message, even if my main window is minimised / on another virtual desktop. I use my inbox folder as truly an inbox, i.e. it usually only has new messages in it. Thus, the normal situation for a new mail arriving is I open it, decide I don't need to keep it, click delete (and have an empty message window). So I'd find this enhancement useful quite often. :-)
