Description Darin Adler 2001-09-10 00:33:35 UTC
For fonts, at least, we are making a nice UI for selecting them. But there's
already a GNOME framework for this sort of thing. It's the gtkrc files, and you
control things by editing them. So why do some parts of our program have a
different way of controlling the font and how does this interact with the files.

Of course the way you set up these files is by editing them so they are pretty
lame for non-expert users.

Reassigning bug to arlo@eazel.com.

Arlo, we need to decide what the policy is for honoring gtkstyle things.

Once we know that, you can file specific bugs on violations of that policy.

thanks

I hate this bug too.

This isn't my call to make, how font information is stored.

Ive already taken this issue into account in many places. I think that both
Arlo and Andy agree that for the 'Gnome Theme' in Nautilus, we should honor as
much of the GtkStyles and stuff as humanly possible.

So now, the issue of enforcing this policy still remains. Arlo, for best
results I stronglt suggest that you be the person to own this issue and file
bugs as you see fit.

For example, if you see that with a particular gtk theme, there is a rendering
error in Nautilus, then thats a bug - probably for me.

So this issue is not really a bug per se as much as an on going role for you.
Again, for consistency issues, I suggest you be the owner. You can also
coordinate this effort with QA. You could provide them with a list of Gtk
themes to try and what to look for. They could even integrate this into their
smoketests. Its possible we dont have the bandwith for this, but we should
consider it at least for the Eazel Gtk theme.

Ahhh... For some reason this bug made me think it was all about fonts.

Well crud. I could write about 20 bugs about how we don't honor the gtk
themeing system where we should/could.

I'll take this one back.

High priority because significant implementation changes may be required
depending on the resulting design.

------- Additional Comments From sullivan@eazel.com 2000-09-08 17:10:00 ----

Doh! Forgot to actually change the priority.

Batch-assigning QA ownership of remaining bugs to eli@eazel.com

I'll do this as I tar through the UI review I'm doign with bfrank right now.

Let's review this on-going bug in 1.0.1.

SPAAAAAAAAAM!

(Jon Allen has taken these components; QA Assigning bugs to him.)

------- Additional Comments From darin@bentspoon.com 2001-04-02 15:18:26 ----

I'd love to see the 20 specific bugs and then we can just close this one.

i'm going to close this as incomplete, right now the only components
in nautilus that don't use system theming are the sidebar and icon
view. I have filed bugs for all of these. The sidebar is likely to be
removed in gnome 2.2 and replaced with a more standard design.
Regarding the icon view i have filed bugs covering all issues i can
think of.
