GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 376303
In folders other than the Inbox, save replies with original message
Last modified: 2012-02-08 12:13:13 UTC
One of the most useful aspects of an e-mail program that I have ever used is the ability to save replies with the original message, and I request that you consider including this in Evolution. (It is available in MS Outlook: Go to Tools>Options>Preferences>E-mail Options>Advanced E-mail options "In folders other than the Inbox, save replies with original message"). I have recently migrated to Evolution and miss this feature greatly. Its absence adds greatly to my daily workload. I manage an academic scientific journal and have to be rigorous in ensuring that all e-mail, of which there is a great deal, is responded to. Before responding to a message I would move it to the appropriate folder for filing, and then respond, and the response is then automatically filed with the original note. With grateful thanks, Martin Fisher
It doesn't seem as this request has gotten any activity but I'd also love to see this capability in 2.24.*. As a former Thunderbird user I was happy when Mozilla added it, and now I keep forgetting that sent mail is stored in a folder of it's own. I can't tell you how many times I almost tore my hair out wondering what the he** happened to a message I knew I had sent.
I also need that feature very much, Evolution did evolve :-) to be better that Thunderbird I used but this is very unpleasant omission
I'd like to use Evolution, but it just doesn't fit my needs until this feature is added.
If this feature is added, it could reach a higher level of usefulness, if it would not save the reply in the same folder as the original message in the case of a mailing list you are subscribed to. Ie. if evolution detects that you are replying to the list address, it should store the sent message in the sent messages folder (as it currently does for all messages).
I am a new convert from Outlook to Evolution. This feature request is an immediate gap obvious to former users of Outlook. The mail sorting features are similar to Outlook, so it is natural to filter email into different folders. Once sorted, a reply goes into Sent, so you then iether need to: a) manually move the Sent messages to the right folder b) bcc yourself on every message and have the rules handle that or c) have the sending rules duplicate every incoming rule. The proposed UI change would be: a. under Edit / Preferences / Mail Accounts, Defaults tab. b. add tickbox below the Sent Mail Folder labeled "Save in Same Folder" to active same folder sending. The proposed functional change would be: a. On user reply to message (including inbox), the reply is saved to the current folder containing the message being replied to instead of the "Sent Message Folder".
+1 Such a feature would make easier to use the threaded view, allowing to easily read "conversations" (much like gmail does in "All messages")
+1 for me, too
+1 :(
this is duplication of bug 246514 - Option to save replies in the same folder as original. "Description of Problem: There is only one global 'sent folder' Expected Results: It would be great to have an option to save _replies_ in the same folder as the replied-to message. This means you get a nice threaded view of a conversation and makes it easier to archive and search as all related items are together."
