I'm not quite sure how this came in as a CD/DVD creator issue.  I was not doing anything related to CD/DVD.

Here's what I was doing:

I was utilizing nautilus to connect to a samba share on my network using the smb://servername/sharename syntax in the location field.  I was in the middle of copying a couple of large MS-Outlook PST files (less than 2gb).  The transfer seemed to hang, possibly due to flakiness on my wireless network.  When I hit the cancel button, the nautilus crash occured.

gnome-vfs got deprecated in 2008.

gnome-vfs is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes
in 2011. Its codebase has been archived:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gnome-vfs/commits/master

gio (in glib) and gvfs are its successors. See https://developer.gnome.org/gio/stable/ch33.html and https://people.gnome.org/~gicmo/gio-migration-guide/ for porting info.
