Some cameras save orientation flag in the EXIF header. Would be nice if nautilus supported this when creating thumbnails. Some apps already do have support for this (F-Spot, GIMP).

Thanks for your efforts, this depends on bug 168231 because we need the EXIF information from the jpeg loader, so that we can apply the algorithm described under http://jpegclub.org/exif_orientation.html.

Just for your information, I am trying to change gthumb to generate thumbnails which respect EXIF info (bug 343867). gthumb may share nautilus thumbnails in the future (bug 157322), so there is potential for short-term conflict. Just so you know...
