GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 333664
"Empty Trash" should have a keybinding assigned
Last modified: 2010-04-23 15:55:06 UTC
One option would be <control><shift>Delete It's taken from the OSX finder behaviour: Delete for "move to trash", C-S-Delete to empty trash. Anyway, it should be consistent with the chosen option for Evolution (see #251261)
> "Empty Trash" should have a keybinding assigned There is a school of thought which prefers to reserver keybindings for frequently occuring actions such as delete, but empty Trash seems like something you shouldn't particularly need to do quickly and often. Everything should be keyboard accessible anyway so it shouldn't be more than a few keystrokes away (Alt+F+M in Nautilus). The prospect of accidentally emptying the trash does worry me a little too but the chances of that happening do seem relatively slim. Perhaps if nautilus is writing out an accels file somewhere it could already be possible to manually edit the configuration and set your own keybindings? (Same goes for Evolution.) Even if the developers decide not to have any keybinding assigned by default it should be possible to set one in some way or another (editing a config file or gconf at worst). Thanks for suggesting this. Confirming.

Wrong dup, sorry for the spam.

It's now possible to assign keyboard shortcuts to arbitrary menu items, so I guess this bug can be closed.
Although there isn't a default keybinding for emptying the trash, it is possible to assign one now, so I am closing this report.
