Description Dennis Laumen 2005-10-03 11:09:30 UTC
Distribution: Ubuntu 5.10 (breezy)
Package: Evolution
Priority: Minor
Version: GNOME2.12.0 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Changing contact middle name unsaveable
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Contacts [was: Addressbook]
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
Description:
Description of Problem:
When a user wants to add the middle name to the last name field the
changes are unsaveable because the full name does not change.

Example:
First name: Edmund
Middle name: von
Last name: Blackadder
Full name: Edmund von Blackadder

When one wants to make the word 'von' part of the last name the full
name does not change and the changes cannot be saved.

Example:
First name: Edmund
Middle name:
Last name: von Blackadder
Full name: Edmund von Blackadder

A workaround can be done by saving the last name as 'vonBlackadder' (one
word) so the full name is changed. After the full name is changed one
can change the names as one likes.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Start Evolution
2. Enter Contacts
3. Follow example above (Description of problem)

Actual Results:
The name cannot be saved.

Expected Results:
The name should be saved.

How often does this happen?
Everytime i try.

Additional Information:
Using Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger Colony 5 x85 (all updates) and Evolution
2.4.0

Comment 1 Sushma Rai 2005-10-04 04:52:31 UTC
I created a contact with
first name: Edmund
second name: von and
last name: Blackadder and saved it.

Again edited it in full name dialog as
first name: Edmund
second name:
last name: von Blackadder

file as (File under) name changes and Ok button
gets enabled. So I can save the changes.

Am I missing anything?
Comment 2 Dennis Laumen 2005-10-04 07:21:24 UTC
I am sorry if I was unclear in this.

- First you create the contact;
- Then you edit the contact. Not in the full name text field but in the dialog
with the first, middle, last name text boxes;
- Click OK in the dialog to write the changes to the full name text field on
the add/edit contact window;
- The button OK on the add/edit contact window will be disabled because the
full name has not changed;

If I am still not clear I could make some screenshots.

Thank you for you help!

this works prefectly fine. Ok button on editor gets enabled on
saving modifications (which doesn't alter full name) in full name dialog.

when you delete 2nd name and modify last name, file under
value also changes.
(from "Blackadder, Edmund" to "von Blackadder, Edmund"), and OK button
gets enabled.

(Note: my evolution version is 2.4.x)

dennis: does the OK button get enabled after switching window focus to some
other window and back again? which window manager are you using?
could be something similar to bug 303856.
Comment 5 Dennis Laumen 2005-10-06 18:08:39 UTC
I can't seem to reproduce the bug. It probably got fixed in one of the many
updates the last days.

I will try to reproduce it the next few day but if nothing else comes up,
consider it fixed.
Comment 6 André Klapper 2005-10-06 18:14:11 UTC
dennis: thanks for your answer, closing this as fixed.
please reopen if you can reproduce.
