This bug has been opened here: http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16064

"that's a very minor issue.. but the icon for ruby applications is ugly. see
screenshot i'll attach.
on ubuntu breezy.

http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/attachment.cgi?id=3981
look at the icon for ruby programs (.rb)

lots of pixels in this icon, at 48x48.."
Comment 1 Emmanuel Touzery 2005-09-29 11:45:14 UTC
to be more precise, this icon doesn't exist at 48x48, gets scaled, and the fact
that it's scaled is ugly. it's full of pixels and blurry. a 48x48 (most common
size used) version would be needed...

OK, I got the answer from Geoff Youngs. He holds the copyright for the icon and
is OK to include it in GNOME. He suggests another icon though, i put it on
http://www2.arnes.si/~shvali/application_x-ruby.png
For the other icon the copyright is not clear yet, I asked him. anyway you can
put the first one already if you want and maybe later refresh it with this one
(it's about certain it's free to use the only problem is to get the official OK).

-----------------------
 Hi,

I can confirm that apart from the background (which is from a standard gnome
icon) the ruby icon is based on an SVG that I drew and hold copyright to.

I am perfectly happy for it to be included in the standard gnome icon theme and
released under whatever license the maintainers consider appropriate.

I personally prefer the attached application_x-ruby - the icon is more like the
ruby being used in the proposed redesign of ruby-lang.org
http://redhanded.hobix.com/redesign2005/

If it would be of any use/interest, I could send you the source SVG for the ruby.

HTH,

Geoff.
Comment 3 Emmanuel Touzery 2005-10-17 07:32:38 UTC
OK, actually Geoff Youngs also holds the copyright on the second icon and also
agrees to have it included in GNOME:
(I think the second icon is much nicer, too)

---------------
I drew it as well - I'm equally happy for it to be used. (Slightly
happier really - I think it's nicer). Again, you're welcome to the SVG
source if you would like.

TTFN,

Geoff.

From: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317102 - I suppose this can be
closed, right?
