Description Sebastien Bacher 2005-09-17 12:16:23 UTC
This bug has been opened here: http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=15654

"Hi,

I just browsed to this site:

http://news.ft.com/cms/s/a57e987a-254a-11da-98dc-00000e2511c8.html

and got this message from epiphany:

"Firefox and secureads.ft.com cannot communicate securely because they have no
common encryption algorithms."

I don't understand this message, it must come from firefox and end directly in
epiphany."
Comment 1 Daniel Llano 2005-09-17 16:52:19 UTC
Maybe upstream should change the string to "Firefox and ..." to "This browser
and ..." but I don't know if they want to make other browsers life easier.
Comment 2 Reinout van Schouwen 2005-09-20 18:22:03 UTC
This is obviously a string problem in Firefox.

<biesi> the string that says "firefox" is not in gecko
<biesi> it is in firefox

I suggest to mark this NOTGNOME and file upstream.
Comment 3 Christian Persch 2005-09-20 20:00:50 UTC
No, this is a problem with embedding. The string is defined here:
http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/security/manager/locales/en-US/chrome/pipnss/pipnss.properties#221
with placeholder for the product name; and used here:
http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/security/manager/ssl/src/nsNSSIOLayer.cpp#531
with the product name substituted
[http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/security/manager/ssl/src/nsNSSIOLayer.cpp#499].
The problem is that I've not yet found a way to provide a replacement string
bundle that provides the brand names as Epiphany instead of Firefox (or whatever
gecko we're running under).

Epiphany now provides a branding bundle, so this should be fixed in all cases that gecko actually uses it; the other cases are gecko bugs and should be filed on bugzilla.mozilla.org .
