This looks like bug in gnome-vfs/gnome-volume manager. What versions of those libraries do you have. Can this problem be reproduced with other applications like gedit? Also, what is the exact version of evince that you are using?
Yes, I get the same thing with gedit when I choose File->Open. Version info: evince 0.3.1 gnome-vfs 2.8.4 gnome-volume-manager * not installed *
It's old well-known gnome-vfs bug, so probably update or installation of gnome-vfs-daemon can help you. Alternatively, you can just remove gtk-file-system-gnome-vfs. Feel free to ask for help on it. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 148719 ***
