GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 300429
Copy paste Issue, in Compose Dialog
Last modified: 2006-02-07 11:11:24 UTC
Please describe the problem: The copy paste push buttons that are available in ToolBar of Compose dialog has effecf only with the Text area, where that actual body of the mail is typed. You can not copy and paste to Subject or To or CC or BCC fields. And even when the control is in either of these fields To, CC, BCC or Subject and when you click on Paste button (assuming you have something copied to clipboard), it pastes on to the Mail text area. (Body region) Steps to reproduce: 1. Copy some text, from any application. 2. Launch Compose Dialog 3. Take the control on to To filed (You can see the cursor blinking in To field) 4. Clcik on the paste button in the tool bar. Actual results: Notice that, what ever you had copied has been pasted on to the Mail Text Area (Body region) and still the control blinks in To field. Expected results: It should paste the clipboard contents on to To field and not in the Mail Text area. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: Has same issue with copy too, the redo and undo buttons also has same effect. Say for instance edit some text in Mail Text Area, and then add the subject line, click on Undo, assuming the subject that you added should be erased, will erase the text that you added in Mail Text Area.

For all the header fields (subject, To, Cc, BCc) Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V works. If u try copy and paste from Edit->Copy and Edit->paste it also works. When Ctrl + C and Edit -> Copy are used menu_edit_cp_cb is called and it works fine. When copy and paste form toolbar are used gtk_html_copy and gtk_html_paste are used and while pasting it gives the error ---> gtkhtml-WARNING **: Selection retrieval failed Same is the case with redo and undo they also don't work with header fields. If u try to paste using middle click then also gtk functions are called and same error is thrown. The gtk functions work perfectly in the mail text area but they give error when used for header field.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313430 is another similar bug.
My experience is similar to this. Cut/Copy don't work in to/cc/bcc fields when using the keyboard shortcuts. Context and window dialogs work as does subject. Undo/Redo is broken for the subject and other fields. Running 2.4.1 on breezy all updates to 20051010 am AEST Can't really offer much more to help track it down, sorry.
