Description Eric Lambart 2004-06-29 01:43:26 UTC
Description of Problem:
When writing a new email or a reply, right-clicking on the underlined
(Evo-grokked) contact name displays a popup menu. The first option on this
menu is confusing. It contains a contact card icon and the full name of the
contact.

Expected results:
I think selecting this item should open a Contact Editor window for this
contact. Furthermore, the menu item should be more clearly labeled, i.e.
"<icon> Edit Eric Lambart" rather than just the present "<icon> Eric Lambart"
which does not even imply that it is a clickable menu option.

Actual results:
I swear I just opened a contact editor window by clicking on the
above-mentioned option, but the window was read-only, so I could not update
the contact info. I am also unable to get it to bring up the edit window
consistently for other contacts.

If this MenuItem was never intended to be a clickable shortcut to edit/view
the contact's information (though I think it *should* be), the should be made
clear by making the MenuItem insensitive, or better yet, making it the title
of the popup menu, rather than the MenuItem which it seems to be.

hi eric,
ok, marking my bug as a dup of this one and adding keyword.
fyi: double-clicking on the emailaddress opens a read-only contact
editor.

adding dependency to bug 216073.
Comment 7 André Klapper 2005-02-07 16:59:22 UTC
editing works again in evolution-2.1.4.0.200502040900-0.snap.ximian.
10.1 (see resolved bug 245454 about the contact editor being read-only)
, however you're still right that it's not obvious that selecting the
first item opens the contact editor, and it's still buggy (see bug
216073).
i'd also like to see an "Edit" right before the name.
contact card icon is missing in 2.1.4 - regression.

removing wrong dependency to bug 216073.
Comment 8 André Klapper 2005-03-23 22:06:56 UTC
still valid in evolution-2.2.0.0.200503210410-0.snap.ximian.10.1,
retargetting to 2.3. this requires string changes.
Comment 9 André Klapper 2005-07-15 23:03:13 UTC
still valid in 2.3.5.1
