Click on "Calendar" in the shortcut bar.

The component that appears is actually the "Tasks" one instead of the calendar.

This renders the calendar unusable :/

I can confirm this behaviour.

Using Red Hat 9, XD2, Evolution 1.4.3.

Going to the Tasks component works fine, but when I try to go to the
Calendar component although the toolbar and folder bar are appropriate
for Calendar the main pane is actually the Tasks pane.

So I can't see my calendar either! :-(

I just noticed this today... but I can't remember whether I've tried
viewing my calendar since upgrading to 1.4.3.

It's a bug with gconf settings (although I haven't touched these since
my 1.2 migration).

Nuking /apps/evolution/calendar fixes the bug.
