Description tarose 2003-03-30 00:54:57 UTC
Package: Evolution
Priority: Normal
Version: 1.0.8
Synopsis: problem with Ximian Evolution Calendar & Events
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Calendar

Description:
Description of Problem:
HI I WANTED TO ENTER MY BROTHER IN LAWS BIRTHDAY & HAVE IT APPEAR ON THE
CALENDAR... I ENTERED HIS BDAY IN MY CONTACTS LIST UNDER HIS NAME, BUT
THIS DID NOT AUTOMATICALLY ENTER IT AS A RECURRING EVENT IN THE
CALENDAR... SO I WENT TO ADD IT AS A RECURRING EVENT DIRECTLY TO THE
CALENDAR, WHICH WAS OK BUT IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO ENTER IT FROM THE
EXACT YEAR OF HIS BIRTH (1958) AS THE CALENDAR ONLY WENT BACK TO
1969...

Additional Information:
I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO USE THE CALENDAR TO GO BACK TO ANY DATE AS
FAR BACK AS I WANT TO... WHY NOT PROGRAM THE CALENDAR TO BE ABLE TO
PREDICT A DATE AS FAR BACK AS THE USER PLEASES? ...THIS WAY U CAN SEE
WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK IT WAS ON ANY DAY GOING BACK AS FAR AS U LIKE, AND
CAN THEREFOR USE THE CALENDAR TO MAP A HISTORY OF EVENTS LITTLE BIT BY
BIT AS YOU REMEMBER & ENTER THE EVENTS... MAKING THE CALENDAR A GREAT
TOOL FOR RECORDING CHRONOLOGICAL EVENTS TO USE LATER IN OTHER
APPLICATIONS.

I ALSO JUST TRIED TO USE THE GOTO DATE FUNCTION FROM THE VIEW
MENU, BUT THAT DOESNT SEEM TO WORK PROPERLY EITHER IN GETTING THE DATE I
WANT TO COME UP IN THE CALENDAR... I AM NOT SURE WHERE THE CUT OFF DATE
IS WHERE IT STOPS WORKING, BUT IT WOULD GO BACK TO RECENT DATES OK (LIKE
1998), BUT NOT FOR DATES LIKE 1969...

I HOPE THATS ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED

integration of anniversaries into calendar (recurring dates) should be
solved by the gnome bounty hunt ().
goto-function only goes back to 1969 (does not matter whether to use
the down-arrow or to enter the year by keyboard), but you can go
further into past by clicking the "back"-arrows of the monthly view -
by clicking it maaaaaaany times since it's on monthly basis...PITA!
so it's still buggy since you cannot enter years before 1969 directly.
using evolution-1.4.6.0.200403120630-0.snap.ximian.8.1.
