GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 205277
"load images" is too hard to find
Last modified: 2005-07-15 22:19:11 UTC
It would be nice if there was a toolbar button to load images in HTML mail - the current menu option (in a submenu) is a bit cumbersome.
I agree; it would be nice to have this in a right-click menu entry that only showed up when right clicking on HTML email.
How about moving Load Images out of View -> Message Display and just putting it under View? I guess the right-click menu idea could work... I'm not sure how the fact that we're in the middle of a GtkHTML affects its implementation. Or maybe we could add a button in the message header section in HTML mails? I kind of like that idea.
A button or context menu seems preferable to a shell-level menu option - it should also have a keyboard shortcut.
Related to 3286; probably future at this point.
As a result of the UI freeze today, I'm marking all remaining non-1.0 UI bugs to 'future'. Someone reading this should only change the target back to 1.0 under the following circumstances: 1) The change would not impact documentation. (i.e., 'how to do X' would not have to be changed in any way.) 2) The change would require trivial work for the programmers involved. Most likely, only the programmers themselves are able to judge this. So, if you are not on the evo team, or cannot provide a patch to them for this, you should probably not make any such changes. Sorry that this is going to impact so many irritating bugs, but we have to prioritize our limited resources.

Is this done yet? The location of the command is totally counterintuitive. A button in the toolbar, or a right-click option would be much better.

I have also had this problem, and tried the suggestions and they don't work! Should it now be our choice to turn on/off embedded images in emails, regardless if they are spam or not? Not all embedded images are spam. I tried making the menu selection "VIEW/MESSAGEDISPLAY/LOADIMAGES" and nothing happened. Embedded images do not open! Nor can I save them out...
well, you might try submitting a new bug (your problem is completely unrelated to this bug - this bug is a UI issue, yours is a "it doesn't work" issue) if you are using 1.0.x, then Load Images might not work in some cases - namely situations where the HTML mail references images using relative urls. However, I have implemented support for relative urls in the development series, so if you are seeing this problem in 1.1.2 then you should open a new bug and attach a sample message illustrating the broken behaviour.
Hey Jeff - thanks for the sarcasm... I did not post here for fun! ;) I had submitted this as a bugreport, and it was closed and linked to this one by Mark Gordon!?! 32426 Ximian Packages - unspecified evolution RESOLVED Evolution will not display attached images .../cut/... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 205277 *** so - should I forward you one of the emails I had problems with - or reopen my old bug?? Wow... This is a really old bug. Can we fix this now? ;-) This became painfully obvious when I decided I was sick of (and unable to) support Windows ME on my father's machine, and installed NLD. When they get html mail they cannot view the images because they can never rememeber View -> Message -> Load images. In Thunderbird they have the [ View Images ] button right there. A good start, but it might be more prominent somehow. We should have a similar implementation.
its moved in 2.3 to the view menu itself, and has a shortcut too.
