GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 203598
Stationery (template) support
Last modified: 2009-04-28 04:52:39 UTC
It would be cool to have a "Templates" folder like the one that Mozilla Mail has.
Setting this for 1.2.
Because of the decision to remap 1.1->1.2 and 1.2->1.4, I'm going to be moving a large number of bugs around in the bugzilla. You can just search on 'body contains' 'Because of the decision to remap' and mark all as read. Please direct all questions about this change to evolution@ximian.com, not the bug. Luis
The way this feature should work is having a set of pre-defined templates with backgrounds, colors etc. So e.g. I could say "Write a greeting card email" or, "Write a business type email" or something.
Ettore, what tracker should this fall under (if any?)
Artists: how much time can you dedicate to this?
This is fun to do. I would be happy if we could have some kind of a template directory on disk, so it would be easy to add and test out new templates (as opposed to having them compiled in the composer like the table templates etc we have) We could whip together a few nice ones quick, and could then ship evolution-templates package with more stuff if needed. Could also take user contributed ones. Would be nice if it was easy to create these yourself too, and to install them if you get them from others. So, to answer your original question, we can do this. It is not a big job once we have some way to do these. Would be nice to have << click here to insert title >> -like stuff (just like Powerpoint has for templates for example, so you can do pre-formatted mails too, would be useful for the support people as well, fast to answer to common questions. Heck, it could even have $recipient matching so you could do personalized mails like christmas cards.. That would RULE.) ------- Subject: Greetings! Dear <<$firstname>>, Merry Christmas! ------- $firstname would of course be taken from the addressbook for the recipient addresses.. :-) Evil but would be cool!
Before jeff works on this, please provide the gui that will drive it. The backend is probably quite simple to code, but id ont want jeff wasting his time on the gui.
Okay. Most word processors etc, have a menu entry for this: Insert -> Special field or something. You get a dialog where you can set what kind of a field you can insert. It could basically just have a set of radiobuttons for the field types we support (would be useful for "current date" etc -type fields too) I will look into this and will comment a bit more once I poke around in Staroffice and such to see how it is done there.
Created attachment 40808 [details] mockup for "special field" gui
Okay, I created a mockup attachment here with an example of a few possible data fields too. Basically: * This would be useful for making signature templates, it would fill up your information from your address card. * The "dont update later" will just insert the field as plain text, which does not update later. Unchecking this is useful for making generic templates. Staroffice had this switch, I dont know if we *need* it but I guess it makes sense. * I would be thankful if Anna could have a look at this mockup as well, she might catch something I have overlooked, since this was a quick thing.
..and I'll have a look at the generic "use template" gui next.. Expect some mockups soon.

Changed target milestone to Future.
yeah, "future" is good. :-) updating version number, still missing in 2.0.3. changing subject a little bit, since i don't expect anyone who's not an native english speaker to not know the word "stationery".
should be also done for tasks, because then i can close bug 300328. ;-)

Apologies for any spam... cc'ing usability-maint on all Evolution usability bugs. Filter on EVO-USABILITY-SPAM to ignore.
i fairly guess that i can reassign this. ;-)
Bumping version to a stable release.
Maybe this bug is related to #560480?
Did anyone try template in 2.24.x ? Can you please check and report back whether it works for you or not. See bug 200147 for more info.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 200147 ***
