GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 200602
Need a configurable list of contact folders for completion and other automatic addressbook tasks.
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:02:43 UTC
The mailer should be able to set a default contact folder for the address picker to use. The user should be able to select an alternate one.

I apologize for the spam; re-setting all target milestones to 'future' in preparation for evolution 1.0. If you have any questions, please feel free to write louie@ximian.com.
Info: This bug is still present in 0.15 (was fixed in 0.13, but back in 0.14 IIRC)
You at least need to be able to say "this folder should/shouldn't be included in autocompletion" and "this folder should/shouldn't be available in e-select-names"
Is there some reason we don't want all contact folders to show up in e-select-names as they do now? There's an option menu letting you pick which folder you want to search. The other is important though. We should also let the user pick whether contacts in that folder will make the mailer automatically download images if they have that option set. Not sure where to put these in the gui. The addressbook doesn't currently have any per book configuration. Any ideas are welcome as to how this would be accomplished. Perhaps in a menu item like View->Threaded is in the mailer? Alternatively, we could have a dialog in the addressbook options that lets you build a list using add & remove and a folder chooser dialog. Similar to the vfolder dialog, this would have checkboxes for all local folders or all folders. I like the second idea better because it more conveys the idea of bringing a bunch of information together in one place. The first idea instead conveys that you have a bunch of different information which is optionally included. This also has the problem that the option doesn't actually effect that view, but instead how that view is used elsewhere. Both are valid views, but the second one is less confusing for the user.

Made myself an evolution task for this. see http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=23241
It looks to me that this works pretty well in 1.1 now, isn't it?
yes
