GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 171871
other preferred applications (media players, image editor, text editor, etc) would be nice
Last modified: 2018-01-24 15:06:29 UTC
Hello, I suggest to allow to select more default applications, especialy : * Word Processor * SpreadSheat Editor * Pixmaps Editor. * SVG Editor. * ... * Why not something tricky like « prefered Games ». Okey, it's a joke :) The goal is to look similar to gnome-app-install. Once you have installed a program or if several programs are installed, you can choose you're prefered. Thanks. Other information:
Thanks. That is an enhancement request. +SEVERITY:ENHANCEMENT
sorry, i choose Usability because i didn't link « Feature Request » and Enhancement. (I'm French). I post another bug : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171872 . I change it. Thanks.
Hello, I suggest also to allow to select a music player. This is related to this http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=300514 , i've submit. Thanks.
As i said in bug 171872 , i would like to be able to setup various VoIP apps. My proposal against the maybe-soon-to-be-rewritten gnome-default-applications-properties is available here : http://julien.quicheaters.org/ . The screenshot is not current though, because i made some modifications to make it comply with GNOME HIG. What do you think ?

Bug 392759 suggested to add a calendar applications category, like Dates[1] from OpenedHand. [1] - http://projects.o-hand.com/dates
Hi, Nice to see that latest gnome prefered application handle media player and accessibility. Hope texte editor and more will follow. Regards, Étienne.
The text editor tab was removed as a result of bug 155612 (if I understand correctly). Following the same reasoning, a preferred image editor wouldn't be needed either.
(In reply to comment #9) > Bug 392759 suggested to add a calendar applications category, like Dates[1] > from OpenedHand. > > [1] - http://projects.o-hand.com/dates > Hi, I'm making this post because there are a many users downstream that would really love this particular feature: (eg see http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/4821/ and duplicates). I've chased a ton of forum posts and bugs until I finally ended up here in upstream-land and see this issue hasn't gotten any attention since Jan. 2007. clock applet is currently coupled with Evolution's calendar. Many people use alternatives (Thunderbird, Sunbird, GoogleCal, etc) and there is no way to link it into the system calendar. Clock app needs to be decoupled from Evolution so users can pick their favorite app! Please consider putting this preference for the next Gnome release cycle. Thank you very much for all the work you guys do! rd

Many people use > alternatives (Thunderbird, Sunbird, GoogleCal, etc) and there is no way to link > it into the system calendar. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the clock applet gets its data from evolution-data-server. Since e-d-s is an integral Gnome part, it's only logical the clock applet is coupled to it. So it's the responsability of Sunbird & co. to talk to e-d-s, not the other way around! FWIW, if you add a Google web calendar to your Evolution, your appointments *will* show up in the clock/calendar applet.

Could we please split Media player into Video Player and Music Player. The two have different types of use and I believe currently many gnome distros ship both rhythmbox and totem. You can change preferred application per file type in file preferences but its harder to find and time consuming to do for all audio formats.
The default applications as shown in the info panel offer: - web browser - email - calendar - music - video - photos Word processor, spreadsheets, editors (text, images), etc. can be set by changing the default application for those file types. I'd say the tweaker tool could offer changing the terminal and the default text editor, as those are very unlikely to be things that we would offer in the UI.
Perhaps the tweaker tool could also allow the default file manager to be set? I'm a rather disgruntled ex-nautilus user, and would like set nemo as the default file manager.
