Description Dan Siemon 2005-03-26 23:19:34 UTC
Distribution: Fedora Core release 3 (Heidelberg)
Package: metacity
Severity: normal
Version: GNOME2.10.0 2.8.x
Gnome-Distributor: GARNOME
Synopsis: Multi-head focus problems
Bugzilla-Product: metacity
Bugzilla-Component: general
Bugzilla-Version: 2.8.x
Description:
Description of Problem:
I have a multi-head configuration (non-Xinerama).  CTRL-ALT-{LEFT|RIGHT}
is bound to move to workspace left/right. On the primary head this key
combination works fine. On the secondary head this combination only
works if there is already a window on the desktop. Using CTRL-ALT-RIGHT
to move into a desktop that has no windows results in the matacity
desktop list (the one in the center of the screen) staying visible until
something is clicked.

Metacity is built from GARNOME 2.10.0.1
Xorg from Fedora Core 3

How often does this happen?
Since about GNOME 2.6 or so (I know, I should have reported it long
ago).

Comment 1 Jan "Yenya" Kasprzak 2005-05-02 10:46:27 UTC
I can reproduce this on FC3 (dual head w/o xinerama). Also sometimes (I cannot
tell exactly when) the cursor is warped from the second head to the (0,0)
coordinates (upper left corner) of the first head, and subsequent Ctrl+arrow key
combos switch desktops on the first head.

Possibly off-topic feature requests/questions:
- can GNOME/metacity support separate wallpapers for each head? My screens do
not have the same size or even aspect ratio.
- is there any hot-key binding for Metacity for "move cursor to the other screen"?

Hmm, bug #171347 looks similar to this.

I would also love a keyboard shortcut for switching focus between screens.
Metacity's dual-head support is somewhat lacking.

This is not a duplicate of 133337. It is, however, a duplicate of bug 116041.

Jan: The wallpapers are determined by nautilus, not metacity. The hot-key for
moving the cursor to the other screen is filed as bug 101659.

Elijah, thanks for pointing bug 116041, I intended to mark this bug has a
duplicate of bug 171347, but as you pointed out bug 171347 and this bug are
duplicate of bug 116041.

Loic: No need to reopen this bug to tell me that. ;-)
