Description Eyal Oren 2005-03-21 08:41:23 UTC
Version details: 0.3.1
Distribution/Version: Ubuntu

1. use dvorak keyboard layout
2. select text in tomboy, press ctrl-c
3. text is made italic
4. text should be copied to clipboard

the 'c' in dvorak layout is located on the 'i' in us layout, that probably leads
to ctrl-c acting as if ctrl-i was pressed.

the problem occurs with all ctrl-key-shortcuts in tomboy, e.g. when pressing
ctrl-n, the selected word is linked to a new note (so tomboy acts as if ctrl-l
was pressed, and indeed an 'n' in dvorak is an 'l' in us layout)

other programs using gtk (gedit, gaim) do not suffer from this problem.

I've been running into this. It's very frustrating, and specific to Tomboy. No
other program (GTK, QT, X whatever) has this same problem.
Comment 2 Andrew Conkling 2006-02-07 20:11:35 UTC
Hmm, I just noticed this on one system running 0.3.3, but my desktop with 0.3.4 doesn't have this problem. Can anyone else confirm this in 0.3.4?
Comment 3 Stef Walter 2006-04-24 15:55:56 UTC
Yup this still remains for me with in 0.3.5. The exact behavior that the original poster best describes the problem.

Some details:

 * Running 0.3.5 on an updated Ubuntu Dapper (ie: reasonably up to date),
but this has happened on all my machines.
 * Both session and global X keyboard are set to dvorak. (ie: gdm login
is in dvorak, and dvorak is selected in GNOME prefs)

Comment 4 Andrew Conkling 2006-04-24 15:59:43 UTC
I should clarify: I did have this problem in 0.3.4, but it seems to be with only some of the keyboard shortcuts. And yes, still in 0.3.5.
Comment 5 Christian Persch 2006-04-25 20:06:23 UTC
I suspect this is a manifestation of gtk+ bug 162726.
Comment 6 Stef Walter 2006-04-25 20:53:59 UTC
Perhaps. But it's important to note that in the cases reported here Tomboy is the only application which exhibits this behavior.
Comment 7 Andrew Conkling 2006-04-25 21:01:36 UTC
I think you're right. I think this should be marked, but how? None of the resolution statuses seems to fit.

To add some info:
Tomboy 0.3.5 on Ubuntu Dapper, fully updated, this bug is still present.
Tomboy 0.4.1 on Kubuntu Edgy, fully updated, the bug is completely absent.
Comment 10 David Trowbridge 2007-02-09 05:07:27 UTC
Regardless of whether you only see this in Tomboy, please check to see if it is bug 162726. Do you have multiple layouts listed? If so, does this go away if you remove all but the dvorak layout?
Comment 11 Daniel F 2007-02-09 06:09:14 UTC
david,
YES! under my ubuntu dapper, i removed the second layout (qwerty), and suddenly shortcut keys started working as they are "supposed" to. Then, i added the qwerty layout back, and they got all messed up again.

my other box, with kubuntu edgy, had just one layout on it when i reported previously. just now, i tried adding the qwerty layout, and switching things around - but there was no bug. when i was in dvorak, the shortcuts worked dvorak-like, and when i was in qwerty, the shortcuts worked qwerty-like.

so, it seems that the bug is absent from kubuntu edgy with tomboy 0.4.1. now the only question is, is it because the other box is running KDE rather than Gnome, or is it because of something else.

maybe someone with ubuntu edgy running gnome can test it out?

This bug persists in Ubuntu Edgy. I think it's pretty clear that it is a duplicate of bug 162726 (since the bug also happens with Epiphany). Marking as such.
