Enter a transaction but don't put an entry in the 'transfer' field.
GNUcash displays a dialog asking what you would like to do - it doesn't however
suggest that if you were to fill in the transfer filed everything would be fine.

(I just introduced my dad to Gnucash after using it myself for a few years and
this dialog didn't help him understand what he needed to do).

This is related to bug#105803 and bug#164317 and in any case it's a good idea.

Does this dialog still occur in 2.0.x versions of gnucash? bug#105803 suggests it doesn't, but the behaviour there still needs improvements (to be discussed in these other bugs).
