GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 158793
setting directory background should also set background for all subdirectories
Last modified: 2010-08-02 12:14:08 UTC
I would like to use nautilus backgrounds as a visual helper to tell me where I am in my directory tree. For example, I have a dark green background in my Documents directory, but I would like to be able to say "Set the Documents directory background to this color, and all the directories under it". This would make it very easy to tell where a directory view was coming from at a glance.

#160355 suggests that could apply to a network share too
At launchpad has been reported the same bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/393657
I think Bug 594168 is a duplicate of this bug, but I can't find how to mark them.

From bug 594167: "Currently, backgrounds and colors can only be adjust in compact/icon view, but not in list view. When attempting to drag a color, etc into a folder in list view, nothing happens. After searching around a bit it appears that this is normal, and that the backgrounds are only visible in other view modes. Would it be possible to enable adjusting backgrounds when working in list-mode? It could even be an option in the preferences (e.g. "display backgrounds in list-mode"). This has also been mentioned in Ubuntu's Brainstorm application: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/17747/."
'Backgrounds and Emblems' have now been removed from nautilus master, see [1]. Closing this as OBSOLETE. [1] http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2010-July/msg00023.html
