This look slike a bug in gstreamer alsa plugin. This might be fixed in the gst-plugins that should be out soon. In the mean time, if you run gstreamer-properties and select OSS instead of Alsa for output, the crash should disappear.
Ok, I tried this (for your information, the test sound worked for both Alsa and OSS). Now when I try to playback i just get two short high pitched 'pips' and the application hangs (no more redraws of the Rhythmbox screen). Is there a way I can test gstreamer via the command line to test the playing of the stream is working in isolation to the application interface?
