Description Julien Olivier 2004-10-02 08:45:16 UTC
When you drag a URI from a web browser (tested on firefox) to a Nautilus window,
it creates a desktop file whose name is the name of the HTML file served (for
example "simple-bug-guide.cgi") and whose icon is the "desktop" icon.

IMHO, it's not very intuitive.

What I propose is to use the domain name of the web site and the title of the
document (as defined by the <title> tag) if any, and fall-back to the *full* URI
(maybe ignoring the parameters after '?') if there was no title.

More over, if the site has an icon, it should be used in the desktop file's icon
too, if possible.

Agreed. See also bug 142635.

This is probably fixed now with the work on #127553
