Description Steven Van Impe 2004-09-25 17:06:56 UTC
On my network there is a windows 2000 host called 'PC' in workgroup 'HOME'.
Using nautilus I browse Network>Windows Network>Home>PC.
When I try to open PC I just get:

The folder contents could not be displayed.
You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "Windows
Network: pc".

No authentication is ever asked.

The computer has a public share set up, but I mostly go for the default C$ share.

When I try to use the Location dialog:
smb://PC gives me the same error as above.
smb://PC/sharename gives me an authentication dialog, after which all is well.

Shouldn't I get a list of shares followed by an authentication dialog when
browsing ?

I'm using Gnome 2.8.0 with Arch Linux (2.8 is in the testing repository but
seems stable).

It appears I already file this problem for gnome 2.6, so it's probably the same
thing. The original one is still uncomfirmed, so is someone reading this?
