Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Description of Problem: CD audio plays on inserting CD but has no sound (Mandrake 10), using Intel 82801EB AC'97 audio card. snd-intel8x0 module is loaded, and aliased to sound-slot-0. Sound is not muted and volume is at a reasonable level. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Insert audio CD in either CD drive. 2. Wait. 3. No sound emerges, though progress bar moves. Actual Results: No sound Expected Results: Sound How often does this happen? Every time. Additional Information: Sounds for events works fine.
Is your CD drive internally connected to the soundcard using the provided cable?
Thanks for the response. The sound card is built-in to the motherboard, and it works fine when I boot winXP on the same machine (I have a dual-boot). --Sarge
Windows uses digital playback (WMP and Windows CD Player, at least), GNOME CD Player doesn't (yet). Note that this bug is known, so if that's it, we could dup this to the existing bug. We're planning on fixing that in GNOME-2.8 or 2.10/3.0, but it's something non-trivial that will take me (or someone else) a few days to program.
Thanks. It's nice to know it's not my fault. It's kind of stunning that digital hasn't been covered, to this point. Yes, let's put it in with the other bug, however it is that one does that. As you can probably tell, I'm a serious newbie to linux. Can you let me know when the new version of gnome player is out? I *really* appreciate your presence and willingness to help out. --Sarge
For the new version, see bug #129604: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129604, it has a patch included, so it might end up in GNOME-2.8 already.
