Description Frances Keenan 2004-03-09 15:53:11 UTC
Using build from CVS HEAD 8th March 2004

-Add the volume control applet to the top panel
-Activate the applet
-Using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, increase and
 decrease the volume.
Notice the volume level keeps returning to the bottom after you hit any
arrow key. The volume level you select is being ignored.
Comment 1 Dennis Smit 2004-03-09 18:26:10 UTC
Hmms i am seeing this as well, that is odd, do you use ALSA ?
Comment 2 david.hawthorne 2004-03-10 10:37:39 UTC
I am also seeing this problem. I am using ALSA with an intel 810 sound
chip. It worked fine with volume-control from a few days back.
Comment 3 Dennis Smit 2004-03-10 22:44:02 UTC
I got an mail from Frances reporting that he doesn't think he uses
alsa.

I am changing Severity to critical because this really isn't suppose
to happen.

Comment 5 Dennis Smit 2004-03-18 01:48:35 UTC
After a rebuild and a relogin this problem has been solved.

Marking as FIXED.
Comment 6 Frances Keenan 2004-03-25 18:07:34 UTC
This bug is still present in build from CVS HEAD 23rd March 2004.
Reopening bug.
Comment 7 Jeremy Browne 2004-03-28 02:29:19 UTC
I'm using ALSA and seeing this bug. Perhaps notable that when you go to the
applet's preferences, the 'Select [audio] channel to control' list is empty.

This is w/ 2.6.0 tarball
Comment 8 Luis Villa 2004-04-08 13:55:04 UTC
I'm testing bug 139195, please ignore me. Sorry for the spam.
Comment 9 david.hawthorne 2004-04-08 14:04:11 UTC
I'm using gnome-2.6 from HEAD 01/04/04 and am _not_ seeing this bug. I have ALSA
and i810 sound support built-in to the kernel.
Comment 10 David Marín Carreño 2004-04-08 14:26:46 UTC
I had the same problem.
Now fixed upgrading alsalib and alsa-tools to last version.
Comment 11 David Marín Carreño 2004-04-08 14:38:34 UTC
Hey, I was wrong...

The problem continues here... I thought it was fixed, but when I select the ALSA
master volume in preferences dialog, it has again the same behaviour: the volume
goes down slowly but persistently...

Choosing in preferences box the main volume control from ALSA's OSS-emulated
mixer fixes the problem for me, though.
Comment 12 Mike Irwin 2004-04-08 23:46:15 UTC
I'm seeing the same issue here with version 2.6.0 of the applet. If I adjust
the volume with the mouse or arrow keys, the volume steadily drops until
reaching 0. This does not happen with the volume control program. My volume
settings are also not restored after logging out/in, but that's probably another
issue.
Comment 13 Kurt McKee 2004-04-15 04:51:18 UTC
Volume Control applet version 2.6.0
Alsa is built into my 2.6.3 kernel.
EMU10K1 sound card

PCM and Master are both affected by this, if adjusting the volume using the
applet in the panel.
Comment 14 Alexander Kreuzer 2004-04-24 09:31:28 UTC
I had the same problem
(using 2.6.0 with alsa 1.0.4 with emu10k1 sound card)
but the patch from #137307 fixed it.
