I'd like to suggest that yall add a "New Bookmark" item in the File menu
for the bookmark editor. Not exactly a critical bug though. :)
Comment 1 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2003-10-09 18:19:04 UTC
WE could add this for completeness. I'm not sure how useful it really
is though. I am a little concerned about the length of the file menu
though.

I think we should punt this one.

- It breaks with the bookmark conceptual model. You bookmark a web
site, you dont create a bookmark pointing to a web site.
- It adds clutter for something most users would not use
- The File menu is already quite big
- I cant think to any use case that are not already covered in some
other way
</marco>

I agree with marco and dave on this one too, so WONTFIX.

This is the only valid reason listed for not adding this feature. However, every
major browser allows you to create a bookmark and it honestly confused the hell
out of me when I tried to create a bookmark and couldn't find a New Bookmark
menu item. I think there are people who might argue that you do create a
bookmark that points to a web site. "Add Bookmark" is just a shortcut when you
already have the page loaded. If you don't want to visit the website right then,
you should still be able to bookmark it.

> It adds clutter for something most users would not use

I would disagree. Many times I know the sites I want to bookmark, and I don't
want to visit all 10 sites just to make 10 bookmarks. Until you gather usage
data from other browsers, this is just speculation.

> The File menu is already quite big

Because the File menu is filled with things that don't belong there. Delete,
Rename..., and possibly even Properties are all Editing commands and thus belong
in the Edit menu (See Nautilus).

> I cant think to any use case that are not already covered in some
other way

See above.

Mass reassigning of Epiphany bugs to epiphany-maint@b.g.o
Comment 5 Josh Lee 2005-07-22 19:35:15 UTC
What if you want to create a smart bookmark? How do you do that without a 'new
bookmark' command?
Comment 6 Martin Ejdestig 2005-08-01 00:05:27 UTC
Also, what do you do if you're currently not online and want to add a bookmark?
Maybe this particular case is solvable in some other way though.

Comment 8 Reinout van Schouwen 2005-08-08 21:28:32 UTC
From 118293:
The functionality I miss is to use the currently selected bookmark as a
template for a new one. (If you want to see how this works: the OO.o style
palette has a button to duplicate a selected style and open a properties
window for the new style instantly.) The UI for this feature would include
a item in the File menu, the context menu and possibly a toolbar button, if
a toolbar would be added to the bme.

This can come in handy in cases where the user wants to create several
similar bookmarks for the same site. Smart bookmarks are a good example of
such a case, for instance when creating smb's for a multiple language
dictionary.
Comment 9 Reinout van Schouwen 2005-12-29 14:41:58 UTC
harves, I believe this might interest you too. We discussed a number of use cases regarding creating bookmarks of unvisited pages on irc. If you still have it somewhere it could be added to this bug.
Comment 10 Peter Harvey 2005-12-29 21:01:25 UTC
My writeup of the use cases is currently at
  http://home.exetel.com.au/harvey/epiphany/t3.txt
It's a bit big to post directly here I think.

Comment 14 Antoine Pitrou 2006-09-03 11:38:37 UTC
Can I suggest this ticket be marked as bug and not enhancement?
The use case in #353906 cannot be solved without such a feature.
Also, a "duplicate bookmark" action would come in handy when trying to add several versions of a bookmarklet (to, say, google-translate a page in several different languages).

BTW, I've tried migrating from Galeon and this problem is one of the showstoppers. I can't use Epiphany until it is possible to properly add bookmarks.
Comment 15 Diego Escalante Urrelo (not reading bugmail) 2006-12-26 17:34:06 UTC
Duplicate bookmark would be enough. I have never felt the need to use a New Bookmark command in all the time I use Epiphany, for me bookmarks are memos of urls I like or found.
Not like I know of them before reaching them. The spatial model makes sense to me.
Comment 16 Antoine Pitrou 2006-12-26 20:30:54 UTC
However it is solved, there must be a way to manually enter or modify the URL, and also the "parametered URL" (the one with a "%s" placeholder in order to have a text box in your bookmark bar). Adding bookmark shortcuts for non-standard search engines is a serious use case.
Comment 17 Michael Catanzaro 2016-09-28 16:07:16 UTC
Got a better way to add a bookmark now.
