GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 121736
Floating panels should have 'invisible' handles
Last modified: 2020-11-07 12:16:38 UTC
Well, the summary dosn't state it very well, but I will try to explain this better. Currently, with gnome 2.4, all floating panels have grab handles. The obvious negative side effect is purly astetic. Would it be posible to make the grab handles hidden until the user has the mouse over the panel and/or the panel gains focus? (probably through the ctrl+alt+tab list).

I second this problem. If this can be fixed (transparent panel should be 100% transparent including the handles) it will greatly improve the user experience. please check screenshots: http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8889/screenshot23es.png
Will this be fixed in GNOME .20 at least?

Any news on this ?
I would still prefer to see the handles remain hidden until the user actually fly over them, not over any region of the panel. I would not like the handles to show up simply because I am selecting "Places" for instance. I am not a Gnome developer, but considering that every other widget background is transparent, I would assume that coding it for the arrows should not be different. In fact, arrows should be applets. This way, you can put them at the extremities like they are currently, together like "<> Applications Places...", in one extremity only, as the user desires. Same code would be used to make them transparent.

All these years and still nothing. Simply amazing!
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old feature requests in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you still use gnome-panel and if you are still requesting this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be implemented.
