Description Kevin Duffus 2003-09-08 02:39:32 UTC
It would great if Gnumeric could remember its previous window size when
reopened.

PS. Thanks for a great program :)

In 1.1.x and 1.2 you can set the window size in the preference dialog.
(But of course this would need to be the same for all files.)
Comment 2 joh 2005-01-26 04:40:34 UTC
Setting the window size in the preference dialog is just mindblowing. Really.

BTW, Gnumeric is now at 1.4.2 and *still* pops up at the same window position
and at it's default size. Since Gnome has decided that it's not the job of the
WM to remember such things most applications pop up their window at will, even
if the user has dragged the thing to another place a thousand times. This is
such annoying that I'm very short of blasting out a mass of bug-reports against
80% of all Gnome apps and dialogs which force me to drag and squeeze them around
over and over. Applications that do not remember their window size and position
and the position of their dialogs in 2005 just make me sick.

Evidently you have different priorities than the developers.

But since you are highly motivated in this direction I am guessing we would
entertain patches. But don't forget that it needs to work with multiple
displays of different size and resoslution so simply storing position and
size is a non-starter.

Just for your information, you should read this bug report to avoid doing this the bad way, if you ever decide to do it of course: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243962.

Heh, I wish I was a programmer. This thing keeps annoying me daily. As computer screens have increasingly higher resolutions, sizing up gnumeric on every startup becomes very straining. Who should I send beer to? :)

"sizing up gnumeric on every
startup becomes very straining" Who should I send beer to? :)

Note that there is a preference setting for the startup window size (as percentage of the current screen). So you could increase that and decrease your annoyance.
