GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 108005
accessibility application blockage
Last modified: 2012-03-07 09:37:23 UTC
This is somewhat complicated, but worthwhile. In the case where the screensaver requires a password, the user must type it in using their keyboard. Unfortunately not all users can do this. GOK is a gnome application which allows users to access their computer without using the regular hardware keyboard. xscreensaver, with password locks these users out. Their needs to be a way of "registering" GOK as an application that should not be covered/blocked by the screensaver login screen. Note, I wasn't sure if this bug should be reported as a "screen locker" component bug, so I left it general.
Just wondering: is there any activity with this bug (perhaps offline)?
Humm, this is the same problem like bug #99505 about screen reader. I'll put the comments there. Is it ok to mark this as a duplicate?
Yeah kindof. It is a similar problem if you read Bill's comments in that bug. Ultimately assitive applications must run indisturbed during a screen lock or any other time. The general solution to this is probably more than the combined short summaries that these two bugs imply. Perhaps someone should create a more general accessiblity bug and mark these two as blockers.
According to its developer, xscreensaver is not under active development anymore. It is unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping - Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
