GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 574296
weather apps do not clearly identify stale observations
Last modified: 2021-06-09 21:03:56 UTC
If a weather station does not report for days or months, weather apps may report stale observations as though current. This enhancement would add support for identifying stale observations in weather apps. If an observation is older than a configurable number of hours, an app could display "???" or a special icon. Other information: Here is an example of the problem: Berlin Tempelhof may not longe used for weahter information https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=470099 See also: Need to regenerate Locations.xml.in from current observations http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567607
This also happened for Holešov, Czech Republic. It is reported here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/+bug/508124 But similar thing can be seen in this bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606557 User should be informed that the observation is old and thus useless. A real solution would be using different/more data sources. Currently there doesn't seems to be any workaround for Holešov, while there is a workaround for Coventry.
Created attachment 156144 [details] screenshot showing map of Czech Republic with weather station locations (In reply to comment #1) > This also happened for Holešov, Czech Republic. Thanks for commenting on this problem with stale weather observations. From the attached screenshot, it looks like there are only five alternatives to Holešov, with Brno and Ostrava being the closest. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&num=10&safe=images&ie=UTF8&q=Hole%C5%A1ov,+Czech+Republic&fb=1&gl=us&ei=8F2dS-ecFZ3cjAPozrmrAw&ved=0CBgQpQY&view=map&geocode=FVTE8AIdYjYMAQ&split=0&hq=&hnear=Hole%C5%A1ov,+Czech+Republic&ll=49.724479,15.5896&spn=4.901147,13.051758&z=7
