[UMBRELLA] Problems with OpenOffice PDFs
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Umbrella bug for problems with pdfs generated by openoffice.org 1.1+
-> New
Created attachment 27221 [details] PDF created in OOo-1.1.0 that has unreadable "box" fonts

It seems like a font issue when creating PDFs in OpenOffice.org. If we use the Bitstream Vera fonts, we get boxes and the PDFs aren't correct, however, if we use a font like "Helvetica", it seems to create PDFs without any issue. I'm managed to repeat this successfully with gpdf that's in Fedora Core 2 (gpdf-0.131-2).
Maybe the PDf-Version is the problem. PDFs created by OO are tagged with version 1.4 (open in gpdf, File-Properties-Version). The attachment posted by gatto has also that pdf-version. All those have unreadalbe box-fonts. But: All my documents I created with PDF-Creator under M$-WIN are working with gpdf. Those pdfs have pdf-version 1.3 (Using Debian sid, GNOME 2.6, gPDF 0.131)

I didn't check the Helvetica vs. anything else idea. Helvetica is treated in a special way in PDF viewers, so that might have helped. It's not the PDF version. PDF 1.4 viewer can display most PDF 1.5 files, except some very esoteric features that I can't remember. Anyway. Works in CVS HEAD now. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 148362 ***
