Description Kristof Vansant 2004-04-26 07:41:19 UTC
following pdfs from different sources, are not readable with gpdf:

http://gadek.debian.net/FOSDEM/FOSDEM-Prokopski-SableVM.pdf
http://www.novell.com/brainshare/presentations/jack_monday.pdf

It is however readable with xpdf and acrobad reader

PS: the first one is generated with openoffice. The second one I don't know.

The second file appears to also have been created with OpenOffice 1.1.0.
This screenshot was taken using the gpdf CVS from 2004-04-24.
Comment 2 Andrew Farris 2004-04-26 08:13:56 UTC
I can verify having the same issue, with pdf files generated on this machine and
with the above as well. The above files will not open with ggv or gv either, so
this could be more widespread an issue. (fontconfig, xft?)
The following are Fedora Rawhide (pre-release FC2-test3) package versions.
gv-3.5.8-24
xpdf-3.00-3
gpdf-0.131-2
Comment 3 Martin Kretzschmar 2004-05-06 18:48:40 UTC
Yes, both come from OpenOffice.org 1.1.0.

gv/xpdf have some problems with the SableVM logo in the second file. I guess
this is what Andrew meant.

Comment 5 Martin Kretzschmar 2004-05-06 19:45:01 UTC
I meant "first file" (FOSDEM-Prokopski-SableVM.pdf) not "second file"
Comment 6 Martin Kretzschmar 2004-07-24 20:34:14 UTC
With Bug 148362 fixed, everything except the logo should work in CVS HEAD now.
Comment 7 Pablo Rodríguez 2005-02-10 00:03:08 UTC
Fonts works fine now, but there is something very strange on page 2 and 3 since
gpdf 2.9.3 (xpdf and evince) displays in magenta what acroread 5.0.10 renders as
grey. I'm afraid that something must be wrong here.
Comment 8 Olav Vitters 2006-01-29 01:09:49 UTC
Gpdf is no longer maintained, closing WONTFIX. Please use Evince for your pdf
viewing needs.

Comment 9 Zack Weinberg 2006-01-29 18:08:45 UTC
The links to the PDFs in this bug report have rotted. However, the first PDF (FOSDEM-SableVM.pdf) is still available from archive.org:

http://web.archive.org/web/20040414235945/http://gadek.debian.net/FOSDEM/FOSDEM-Prokopski-SableVM.pdf

evince 0.5 does not render that PDF correctly -- as per comment 6, the text is fine but the logo appears as a big black box. gv renders it correctly. I do not see the problem described in comment 7.

Recommend reopening, reassigning to evince.
Comment 10 Guilherme de Siqueira Pastore 2006-01-29 22:42:38 UTC
Agreed, reassigning.
