Description Erich Schubert 2002-02-27 21:00:51 UTC
From Debian BTS: http://bugs.debian.org/136092

The X option for geometry is defined as

 -geometry <geometry>

where <geometry> is roughly of the form DXxDY+X+Y.

Galeon uses the non-standard forms

 --geometry=<geometry> -g=<geometry>

It also appears to ignore the origin parts of the geometry.
Comment 1 Marco Pesenti Gritti 2002-02-28 12:14:25 UTC
About the name I'm not sure if that can be done with popt but I'll
take a look.
The origin one can be both a bug in gnome_parse_geometry or we could
be using it correctly.

http://bugs.debian.org/162585 gives more information about this

http://bugs.debian.org/185506 also reports problems

Basically we ignore the geometry setting at the moment.
Comment 6 Raul Acevedo 2003-10-22 22:23:35 UTC
So is this going to get fixed soon? Please? :)
Comment 7 Raul Acevedo 2004-05-20 19:35:24 UTC
What would it take to fix this? Please??????????

Comment 9 Jan ONDREJ (SAL) 2005-11-28 11:48:40 UTC
It is more complicated with galeon 2.0.0, because sawfish (for example) can't
detect window name or group and store it's settings. For galeon 1.3.X sawfish
can remember position and other window settings automatically, bud with galeon
2.0.0 can't. :(

Please, can anybody fix a geometry command line switch?
Comment 10 Crispin Flowerday (not receiving bugmail) 2005-11-28 12:04:19 UTC
sawfish should be able to store the settings by looking at the 'role' attribute
on the windows ....
Comment 11 Jan ONDREJ (SAL) 2005-11-28 15:11:48 UTC
Yes, but new galeon's role is: ^galeon-window-5846d8f6$
Each use can modify this to ^galeon-window-
or something similiar, but it is not easy.

Other window managers like metacity can do this.

My favorite distribution has no other gnome window managers like metacity and I
must use it. Installation of sawfish not easy again and geometry settings is
only one thing, which requires this.

Are there some thing, why geometry setting can't be fixed in galeon? Can
somebody remove "--geometry" and "-g" flags from galeon's help, if they can't
be implemented?
Comment 12 André Klapper 2014-08-26 19:52:30 UTC
Galeon has not seen any code changes since May 2010:
