Description Pedro Villavicencio 2008-11-14 13:31:19 UTC
this report has been filed here:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/295408

"open nautilus 2.24.1
go to a place with a lot (1000+) of folders (I didn't try with less than 1000..)

follow strictly the next four operations:
- Switch to list view (ctrl+2)
- left-click to select a folder
- type some text to find a specific folder (the typed text will appear in the bottom-right corner)
- left-click to select a folder (but you can also click anywhere else in the viewport)

I expect that nautilus selects the folder I just clicked on, but instead nautilus expands the first folder visible in the window"

this is not reproducible with nautilus 2.22

I can confirm this behavior on Nautilus 2.24.2. And it's reproducible on a directory with even just two folders or even one folder and one file.

I am running into (what I assume is) the same issue here with Nautilus 2.24.2 but I'm triggering it slightly differently;

1 - Using list view, open a folder that contains at least one subfolder.
2 - Move the mouse pointer to somewhere in the list view (but not neccessarily above a file or folder) and hold it perfectly still.
3 - Press and hold SHIFT.
4 - Notice the expander on the (top-most if more than one is present) subfolder turning active (solid black) as if the mouse was hovering above it.
5 - Click the left mouse button (while not moving the mouse).
6 - The top folder should now expand.

I get this when I try to select a range of files using SHIFT. Any movement of the mouse after pressing SHIFT will return the topmost expander to its normal state which is why the problem often doesn't occur and can seem somewhat random.

I've had this issue for a long time now (I think it started after I moved to Gnome 2.24). Looking at this bug's activity and CCs it seems not a lot of people are interested in it so I'll try to investigate and see if I can come up with a fix myself. I'm not much of an expert on gtk+/nautilus/gnome though so I can't make any promises :/
