would it be possible to attach a photo that you have problem with?

What do you mean with "F-Spot tells me what to do"

Comment 2 Bengt Thuree 2006-05-18 03:47:35 UTC
Could this one be related to bug #326356 – Vertical raw rotation problems.
Comment 3 Larry Ewing 2006-05-24 18:57:13 UTC
Manual rotation of raw images isn't supported yet. They should have the correct orientation if the orientation is stored in the image though.

I can't attach a file since raw files are around 6 to 7 MB. Do you still need it? If so please let me know how to provide it. The only idea I have is via a web folder on gmx.de, but then you have to find the photo on a german web site, if that is okay for you let me know.
Comment 6 ghasd 2006-06-18 14:40:29 UTC
some remark:

CRW files of Canon 300D: other programs (like ufraw) do the orientation correctly, so it is stored in the picture
CR2 files for Canon 350D: f-spot does the orientation correctly (as well as other programs)

I change the status from "enhancement" to "normal" since f-spot can't detect the orientation automatically. (manual rotation would be an enhancement, but wouldn't be needed without this bug).
Comment 7 Larry Ewing 2007-02-10 05:32:20 UTC
re #6 f-spot does crw orientation properly agian (there was a different bug) back to enhancement.

This was one of the first problems I came across when trying out F-Spot; my camera doesn't record orientation, and I can't be bothered to rotate them manually on the camera, so my first task after importing onto my computer is to correctly rotate each one before I browse them to see which are worth processing further.

Not sure this is what the original reporter was reporting, but this is certainly an enhancement I'd like to see.

This bug report has an example .raf file attached if one is needed for work on this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot/+bug/596346
Comment 13 Paul Wellner Bou 2010-07-23 06:46:12 UTC
The rotation bugs should be fixed all now with TagLib, if they weren't fixed before already.

I don't think rotation of RAW images is a feature which should be supported. RAWs should not be touched. The only way would be storing this information in the XMP sidecar and rotating the RAW preview then.

It's a pure metadata operation in the sidecar. We never write RAW files. Probably won't work with metadata writing disabled though.
