GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 310402
Make symlink emblems less intrusive, provide all sizes
Last modified: 2006-07-08 21:49:13 UTC
from bug #99926 : Much of a symlink's power comes from its complete transparency, and that should be true in a graphical representation as well.
I don't quite understand the reason behind this duplicate of #99926?
Well I thought that the symlink icon came from gnome-icon-theme, but I may be mistaken...
The git includes the symlink icon. But what is it you propose here?
Well according to the report in bug #99926, the symlink icon is too intrusive - ie it takes too much space on the file icon and is visually distractive. So I was hoping the symlink icon could be make smaller, half- translucent or something like that. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Created attachment 51113 [details] Screenshot Ok, I'll avoid opening my own bug, because it would be about the link emblem again and this bug seems to be close enogh. My problem is specific to the list view. Icon view seems fine but in list view, emblems are just placed ontop of the folder/file icon. While I see why this can make sense for the list view (generally, those icons will be smaller) I don't like wow links are displayed (see screenshot), it looks really bad.
Alright then, let's make this to not be a button and provide at 16x16, 24x24 and scalable then.

The new symlink emblem icon is less intrusive (just a gray arrow), and is provided in 8x8, 16x16, 22x22, 24x24, 32x32, and 48x48 scalable sizes. Fixed in CVS.
