GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 250289
Ability to store replies to messages in the same folder
Last modified: 2013-07-24 14:39:42 UTC
I use legacy operating systems at work and one useful feature in their mailer is the ability to store the replies in the folder that it is replying to. For example I have a filter for JAPAN and when I opne that message and reply to it my reply automatically appears in the JAPAN folder. The sent messages folder is used for new messages and also replies to the inbox.
you can use outgoing filters for this
That is one solution and it will solve some of the problems. This wishlist item is more general though, it is more intuitive, requires no "programmer like" configuration. If I want to use this facility I have to set up two rules for every folder on my mailbox (I have about 30 plus incoming rules). Some of the rulesets are too complex to get right, I have one person on four separate projects I get their mail and classify the project manually and no rule. I cannot write an outgoing filter for the same reason.

And btw, you can't use outgoing filters for this, not in any practical way
